Mountain Resort in a Marxist Framework: Redefining Luxury Through Labor
The Marxist Framework as Architecture
Inspired by Karl Marx’s critique of political economy, the driving force behind this award-winning concept centers on the commodity as an object forged entirely by human labor. Challenging the client's brief to preserve the alpine context without resorting to stereotypical rustic typologies,
BllendDesignOffice undertook a radical architectural renovation. A conventional alpine house was systematically transformed into a high-end, luxury mountain hotel resort
Materiality, Texture, and Craftsmanship
The core objective was to establish an authentic, self-contained spatial ecosystem where every design element was manufactured strictly on-site. Using a precise palette of raw materials—black metal, local pine wood, mineral aggregates, and specialized craftsmanship—the architecture honors the physical labor involved. Structural black metal defines the main spatial circulation and evening traffic patterns. Mineral aggregates anchor the seamless floor plans, wet zones, and principal elevations, while locally sourced pine wood shapes the integrated storage volumes. By stripping the color palette down to minimal contrast and low saturation, the rich textures of the materials redefine contemporary alpine luxury, moving far away from traditional country aesthetics
Spatial Program & Recognition
Spanning multiple levels, the high-end spatial program accommodates large groups seamlessly, featuring two master en-suite bedrooms, three auxiliary guest bathrooms, and two dedicated children's bedrooms that sleep six. The lower quarters house a versatile, multi-functional living area that fluidly transitions between a private den, a communal lounge, and extra sleeping zones
Celebrating exceptional innovation in spatial design, this project was proudly honored with the prestigious
Silver A' Design Award, International Awards and Competitions
