PETALIS INTEGRIS

DESIGN RESEARCH RATIONALE

INSPIRATION:

Inspired by the ability of concrete to transcend its common usage, the piece is seeking to redefine the boundaries of the medium through innovative works that showcase its variability, fluidity and warmth.  A Material that is perceived as solid and rigid is acquiring a new meaning due to a flower form and its fragile associations.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES:
The concept behind the design is to change the way we perceive the urban landscape and the way we interact with it in the presence of other human beings. Intimacy, relaxation and the ability to bring home utilities to urban scapes can open new interaction and communication channels among users.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:

Research has been conducted in parametric design and complex free flowing forms that come from nature. Moreover, advanced production methods using cast concrete as the core material were researched and case studies of innovative solutions using concrete and other cement based materials were analysed.

CHALLENGE:
While acknowledging the needs of our community and environment, the challenge was to explore the boundaries of concrete and keeping in tune with the needs of contemporary design. An exploration of pursuing advanced aesthetics while aiding the evolution of a structural material outside its common context.
