THE ARCHITECT SHOW: LAYING THE FOUNDATIONS
The creation and evolution of The Architect Show (tAS) 2019 has been defining. The disruptive layout with the "Black & White Clusters" and the diagonal navigation that was designed in 2019, radically changed the landscape of exhibition spaces in Greece, transforming traditional trade show into vibrant, experiential events. Laying the Foundations for an institution that was meant to evolve as a meeting point for the exhibition and design community
The Cradle of an Architectural Revolution
For BllendDesignOffice, architectural approach extends far beyond aesthetics; it is a deeply research-informed, experiential process. When we were called upon to shape the spatial identity of The Architect Show (tAS) in its infancy, our objective was clear: to deconstruct the traditional, linear form of commercial exhibitions and build the cradle of a pioneering institution.
Led by Helen Brasinika, our office introduced a radical spatial strategy that would redefine how architects, interior designers, engineers, and material brands interact.
The Philosophy behind the Disruptive Design
Our architectural concept for the 2019 edition relied on two innovative pillars that completely transformed the HELEXPO experience:
-
Black & White Clusters: Breaking away from the monotony of standard booths, we created uniform, triangular spatial modules organized into contrasting black and white islands. This visual duality served as a living canvas to highlight the raw qualities of materials under the theme of "Shadow & Light."
-
Diagonal Navigation (Diagonal Flow): We mapped an alternative path of movement that guided visitors organically. This diagonal routing eliminated physical fatigue, stimulated sensory curiosity, and maximized vendor-to-visitor interaction.
-
The Architecture of Well-being: Putting our signature Research-Informed Design methodology into practice, we proved how precise spatial layout can positively shift human psychology, energy, and overall spatial experience.
A Legacy Shaping the Future
This initial, iconic intervention by BllendDesignOffice was not merely an exhibition set; it became the design DNA of tAS. By centering the human experience, lighting dynamics, and immersive learning, we engineered the spatial core upon which Greece's one of the most prominent architectural institutions to become resilient in order to evolve in the future and thrive
“ Today, our practice continues to translate various corporate vision and narratives into innovative spatial realities, proving that exceptional design does not follow trends—it generates them”, says Helen Brasinika, Design Director & co founder of BllendDesign & Research Office
